The main problem with "reblues" is that most don't understand how to use a power buffer properly, and dish out the screw holes, rounding off edges, and muddy up the lettering. So, anyone have ideas on what these are going for these days?Ĭlick to expand. The butt plate has a chip, but the trapdoor for cartridges works fine. I had sling mounts put on it also, a stud in the butt stock and a clamp on the lower barrel. I don't know what they used for a finish, but it looks like it was simply brushed on and tends to flake with any carry or use. The stock finish has flaked quite a bit, I keep thinking about refinishing it to make it pretty, but never have. I had a gunsmith do a trigger job on it when I got it, it went from so-so accuracy to being one of the more accurate 22's I've had for iron sights. Its the 22 LR over 20 ga with 20" barrels, and has some finish wear, but is very tight and mechanically excellent. I've had it quite a while, though never shot it a lot. I'm thinking of letting my old Savage 24 C (Campers Companion) go, but don't really know what its worth today. But if you are looking for a non-collector combo to drag around and tear up in the woods, and possibly cut on, then I think it's a better choice.I've been living with a shoulder and back injury and not been able to work enough. They are pretty low-end guns, and the Savages were made a good bit better. I heard a rumor that they were making them in. They come threaded for chokes from the factory, have double triggers (albeit in the wrong order, but still double triggers lol), cost less than a decent-condition Savage 24C, and likely won't be regulated any more badly than the 24Cs I've had my paws on. If you are looking for a combo gun that is a shooter instead of a collector, I'd put the Savage in the safe and get you one of the Chiappa Double Badgers in. If you thread it or rechamber it, you'll reduce the gun's collector value a good bit, and you'll end up with a whole pile of money into it, way more than it's worth. The Savage 24s are starting to become collector pieces. My opinion isn't worth much, but here it is.
